My Third Act Breakup
In which I, not by choice, break up with my job and have no idea how it's all going to come together.
If my life were a romance novel, I would be in the third act—the breakup where everything goes to sh*t and you’re wondering how these two characters will ever find their way back to each other.
In October, I was unceremoniously dumped by the company I was working with when my role was eliminated as part of a workforce reduction. As a professional communicator who was always there to handle crisis communications, I didn’t see it coming. But I wasn’t cut-up about the decision.
In a twist of fate, just the day before I was let go, I was selected as a mentee in the 2024 SmoochPit Mentorship, which matches unpublished romance writers and published romance authors together to work on their book.
I’ve been thankful for the distraction and the opportunity to hone my craft, but I’ve also been thinking about what’s next.
I’m quite burned out by my corporate career and have no desire to jump right back into it.
At the same time, I have A LOT of thoughts on writing and learnings from pursuing traditional publishing since 2019 that are begging to be released, so I thought why not write?
I aim to post monthly, sharing more about my writing journey and creative process.
I don’t know how my story will end, but I’m excited to have you be part of it!
